Italian Job

Steve James and Richard Murphy took part in the 3rd European Workshop on Optical Fibre Sensors, held in Napoli, Italy. Four posters of the EPG’s work on optical fibre grating sensors were presented at this excellently organised event. Steve James was on the technical program committee, and also acted as the chair of one of the discussion groups.

Laser Fest

June 2007

Ralph Tatam, Dan Francis, and Stephen Buggy flew the EPG flag at SPIE’s Optical Metrology symposium, held in Munich. Ralph was a Chair of the Symposium, Stephen presented his latest work on the use of long period gratings to monitor the cure of epoxy resins, while Dan discussed the use of fibre optic imaging bundles in shearography instrumentation

ICOLAD

May 2007

Members of the EPG attended the Third International Conference on Optical & Laser Diagnostics (ICOLAD) at City University, London. Ralph Tatam was invited to present the EPGs’ work on the industrial measurement applications of fibre gratings and fibre optic imaging bundles, while Zhenghai Lu presented his latest work on the use of a Mach Zehnder interferometer to act as the spectral filter in a Planar Doppler Velocimetry system.

Holography and OCT workshop

Ralph attended the International Workshop on Digital Holographic Reconstruction and Optical Coherence Tomography for Engineering Applications held at Loughborough University, 23-25 April 2007.

He presented work on full-field OCT using fibre-optic imaging bundles.

SET for Britain 2007 – Ricardo at the House of Commons

March 2007

Ricardo Correia represented the EPG at the SET for Britain in the House of Commons, London, on March 19th. SET is an annual event where Britain’s Top Early-Stage Research Scientists present posters on “frontier” science, engineering, medicine and technology research to MPs, Peers and other visitors.
